Mary Jo Iozzio, PhD

Dr. Mary Jo Iozzio is a Professor of Moral Theology at Boston College’s School of Theology and Ministry (STM), where she has taught since 2013. She earned her Ph.D. in Systematic Theology with a focus on Moral Theology from Fordham University in 1994. Prior to joining Boston College, Dr. Iozzio served as a Professor of Moral Theology at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, from 1993 to 2013. She has also held adjunct positions at Fordham University, Providence College, and the University of Rhode Island.
Dr. Iozzio’s academic interests center on Catholic Social Teaching, feminist ethics, and disability ethics. Her scholarly work emphasizes the ethical inclusion of marginalized communities, particularly individuals with disabilities. She is the author of Disability Ethics and Preferential Justice: A Catholic Perspective, which explores the theological and moral imperatives for disability inclusion within the Church and society. Her research integrates perspectives from Catholic social thought, liberation theology, and moral psychology to advocate for justice and dignity for all individuals.
In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Iozzio has been actively involved in interfaith and ecumenical dialogues, contributing to discussions on the intersection of theology, ethics, and social justice. Her work continues to inspire students and colleagues alike, fostering a more inclusive and compassionate approach to moral theology.
